Swachh Survekshan rankings, Indore secures the title of the cleanest city of india for the 7 time, with Surat joining as a co-winner for the first time.

Indore: India's Super Clean City

Indore has once again claimed the title of the cleanest city in India, sharing the honor with Surat in the 'Swachh Survekshan Awards' presented by President Draupadi Murmu. This marks the seventh consecutive win for Indore in this category. Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava attributed the success to the collective efforts of the people of Indore, municipal workers, officials, MP CM Mohan Yadav, and Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, dedicating the award to Lord Ram. Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan also extended congratulations.

Indore's achievement is attributed to its comprehensive waste management strategies. The city has implemented a complete ban on single-use plastic, leading to a significant reduction in waste generation. Initiatives such as '3 R' centers, cloth bags, utensil 'banks,' parks developed from reusable materials, and home composting units have played a crucial role in waste reduction.

The Indore Municipal Corporation collects approximately 692 tonnes of wet waste, 683 tonnes of dry waste, and 179 tonnes of plastic waste daily, categorizing them into six segments at households. Specially designed vehicles with compartments for different types of waste run across the city to collect garbage. Indore's waste management system, including collection, processing, and disposal, has contributed to its success in the National Cleanliness Survey.

The city operates a 'Gobar-Dhan' plant under a public-private partnership, processing 550 tonnes of wet waste daily to produce 17,000 to 18,000 kg of bio-CNG and 100 tonnes of organic fertilizers. The bio-CNG fuels 110 city buses, and the municipal corporation purchases it at a subsidized rate of Rs 5 per kilogram, lower than the market rate. Indore's sustainable waste management practices have established it as a global model for cleanliness.
